This 303 page toolkit is intended for use by community organizations as they collaborate with schools. Sample materials throughout the toolkit are intended for reproduction by local organizations and schools. They are available electronically in both Word and PDF documents and can be accessed on the CD-ROM and on the Asthma-Friendly Schools page on the American Lung Association’s Web site (www.lungusa.org/afsi). The Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative Toolkit is a planning tool based on real-life activities that have been used in schools throughout the United States to create comprehensive asthma management systems. Elements of the Toolkit provide in-depth planning and activities to support CDC’s Strategies for Addressing Asthma within a Coordinated School Health Program. As schools and school districts vary within and among regions and states, the Toolkit provides approaches that can and should be customized depending on local variables, priorities, and current situations. The Toolkit is divided into two successive sections and also contains a list of resources for schools and community organizations.
