This peds case study is available in English, and is intended for advanced level health care providers, especially pediatricians, of the special susceptibilities of children to hazardous substances in the environment and to aid in their evaluation of potentially exposed patients. This case study provides direct biologic indicators of a child’s environmental health, environmental diagnosis, the exposure-disease model, sources of exposures, and interventions. Upon completion of this case study the participant should be able to describe how and why children differ from adults in their susceptibility to environmental hazards, apply the knowledge of environmental medicine in the evaluation of well and sick children, identify parental occupation and hobbies as a part of the environmental history, and identify additional sources of environmental health information.
