EnviroRisk, available in English, is a case-based, problem-solving program in environmental risk assessment and risk communication. The learner will play the role of a public health professional throughout the course. This course is designed to develop the learner’s ability to investigate an environmental health problem and serve as a resource and risk communicator in the community. EnviroRisk is designed for public health professionals, and may include sanitarians, physicians, nurses, risk assessors, epidemiologists, and environmental engineers. Community groups may also find useful resources and a framework for approaching environmental health issues. The course takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and has an optional self-assessment quiz at the end. Upon completion of this course the learner should be able to: • apply the Seven Cardinal Rules of Risk Communication • explain basic elements of toxicology, epidemiology, and environmental medicine. • describe the role of the environment in cancer causation. • identify diverse resources to investigate health status and environmental hazards. • explain the components of a "qualitative" environmental risk assessment. • recognize agencies and health professionals that may assist in environmental risk assessment. • describe a set of criteria for establishing causation of a given environmental agent.
