Minimizing Hazardous Wastes: A Simplified Guide to the Basel Convention

This document provides an introduction to some key hazardous wastes and the basics of the Basel Convention. It explains the three-step strategy for minimizing the generation of wastes set forth by the Convention. The three-steps include: 1) minimize the generation of hazardous wastes; 2) treat and dispose of hazardous wastes as close as possible to where they were generated; and 3) minimize international movements of hazardous wastes.
