                <text>&lt;span&gt;The air samples of workers exposed to chemical substances collected by CSST inspectors and occupational health professionals are analyzed in the IRSST's laboratories. The interpretation of the results of these analyses determines which substances are present at high concentrations and in which activity sectors. This information has been compiled for members of the review committee of the standards of the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety (ROHS), the CSST, the health network, as well as joint sector-based associations. This study has led to a series of documents being produced that enable interested people to establish regulatory, strategic and operational priorities, while identifying potential research priorities. It is part of a process to monitor and identify substances that should be the subject of research or of measures to control worker exposure. The authors have also produced annual knowledge summaries of the results of the analyses of the chemical substances produced at the IRSST for the years 2001 to 2005 (catalogue numbers B-071 to B-075).&lt;/span&gt;</text>

                <text>&lt;span&gt;Biomonitoring indicators serve as a complement to environmental monitoring for documenting, controlling and preventing worker exposure to chemical contaminants, and vary with factors related to the worker and his environment. In a previous study, the authors examined the individual conditions responsible for this variability. In this publication, they document the effect of variation in exposure levels on the measurement of these indicators. The objective: to propose a model for the mathematical calculation of the total variability while taking the different sources into account. As a complement to previous research in this field, this study provides Québec occupational health professionals with essential information on the total variability that can affect biomonitoring data. The results will be used to compare expected variations in environmental surveillance parameters to the variation in biological indicators, according to different exposure scenarios. This information will be added to the IRSST's biomonitoring guide. The institute's various clienteles will thus have a decision tool applicable to biomonitoring strategies. This research will also yield a computer tool that facilitates calculation of the number of samples required.&lt;/span&gt;</text>

Knowledge about their exact nature and the generation and analysis methods, in the laboratory as well as by direct-reading instruments, would allow safe bronchial provocation tests to be developed in the exposure chambers created by the IRSST. This activity is an initial step, which consists of documenting the acrylates used in Québec and the evaluation methods available. It will allow a strategy to be established for investigating these compounds and their related health problems.
